Since this is a universal station, I can take it with me if I get another laptop from a new job down the road. The built-in USB ports are very convenient I use these for a keyboard, mouse, and headset. I used a VGA to HDMI adapter on one of my VGA monitors and it worked fine.

Keep in mind that you cannot connect two of the same kind of video connectors to this docking station.

I downloaded the latest drivers off the manufacturer's website.

You will need admin access to your machine to install the necessary drivers. The setup was actually super easy, but the documentation misled me for an hour while I tried to fix a problem I didn't actually have. Overall Review: The video is clear and not laggy (I use this for a work laptop only). No noticeable video lag (not a gaming machine)Ĭons: Documentation is woefully out of date and misleading Pros: Easy to set up (once you ignore the instruction manual) Overall Review: If there are no concerns regarding the distance between the dock and a switch it will most likely work successfully. I do blame the hardware implementation of the DisplayLink Ethernet for this behavior, Be aware. I had to test multiple combinations of switches, cables, and outlets before I figured out that the distance makes a difference. Both outlets pass Cat5E tests with flying colors and any other device (laptops, desktops, printers) connects on any of them successfully. In my case, I was not able to connect to a Cisco switch via one wall outlet that was a bit further from the switch and was able to connect via another closer wall outlet.

All connected devices work fast and reliableĬons: - Very poor hardware implementation of the Ethernet port: it only supports full duplex connection and may not work completely on some longer cables. Does support tree monitors on a laptop with full native display resolutions Pros: - Easy to install and connect, good drivers support on both manufacturer and the DisplyLink sites Overall Review: This would be the best darn docking staion on the market if it could really pull of the dual monitor setup seamlessly FYI, I am running the latest OS on my macbook. Either way Its best to get the Startech people to help you install the device and make sure you don't have the same issues. Its quite frustrating, I don't know if its an issue with my monitors or the Startech device. but then the next day I turned on my macbook and I could only get one of the monitors to turn on just like before. I mean both of the monitors were working really well just as I imagined they would. It happened very late at night so I wasn't quite sure which troubleshooting method worked, or if perhaps the whole thing was a dream. So with some tinkering (turning the Startech docking station on and off, switching the HDMI/DVI connections between each monitor, and disconnecting the USB 3.0 from my macbook) I somehow got both monitors to work. My Macbook recognized that there were 2 external monitors but only 1 of them would turn on and display an extended desktop. The first day I put this dockingstaion together with my macbook and 2 ASUS monitors I had trouble getting both monitors to work at the same time. (I'll explain later in the "cons" section).Ĭons: If you bought this for the sole purpose of trying to do a dual monitor setup with a macbook pro then you might be slightly disappointed. works with a dual monitor setup (with 2 external monitors).sometimes. It allows you to charge your other USB products even though you are not connected to your laptop/macbook which is a major plus.Ĥ. Pros: The Startech docking station is probably the best docking station you can get if you own a macbook.ġ.
